Social Media Week Bogota Recap
SOCIAL MEDIA WEEK (BOGOTA, COLOMBIA)
Oct 2001- I was invited earlier this month to the wonderful country of Colombia in the city of Bogota for Social Media Week. There were so many amazing speakers and I got to connect again with my good friend from Kiip.me (Brian Wong). I have to thank the amazing folks at Zemoga for making it possible. Special thanks to Tatiana Gonzalez, Camila Pedraza, DJ Edgerton, Brianna Campbell and everyone else from Zemoga
While I was there I got to talk to a bunch of young Colombians about using social media to bridge the gap between art and communication online. It was a lot of fun. I also had a chance to create an action painting at one of Bogota's amazing Juan Valdez Coffee locations. They were awesome and gave me so much love and so much...coffee! It was really cool how they invited me as an artist to share my experience. I got to talk about our blogging platform too (ownzee.com) which made me excited because I have never spoken publicly about our new venture. See you soon Bogota!
The Art of The Elysium + Ruinart
RUINART AUCTION IN WEST HOLLYWOOD
Oct 2001 - Last weekend Ruinart along with The Art of The Elysium kicked off an art auction over at The London in West Hollywood, CA. I donated a painting to them about a year ago and I'm glad they held this auction along with seasoned auctioneer Alexander Gilkes. Anne Hathaway made it to the auction which I thought was pretty cool of her....I actually met her mom last week in New York. Below are some pictures.

Long Over Due!
NEW VIDEO "SECRET ART STASH" MADE BY DAVID UPNUP
Sept 2011 - Wow, long time friends, it's been a while. This site will be updated very soon and the look will be a bit different. Details of that coming soon, I promise to update more, I've just gotten so use to using other platforms through social media that sometimes I neglect my personal site! That will change though! Okay, now for some updates
My friend David from UpnUpDaily has been making me these little clips and we just did this one. It features work from over the years at a storage place where I house some older work. Check it out:
Feb. 2011 - Hey all, Kiki here. Just wanted to update you all. It's been a while. Happy New Year even if I'm a little late. It's been a little quiet, I'm in a new city and just taking it all in. I have seen some great shows and continue to meet new great people.
I'm working a series of drawings based on super heroes and certain cartoons I grew up with. It's an experiment and I'll see where it takes me. Some of the lines in comics and cartoons are really expressive and sometimes remind me of abstract paintings. We'll see where it goes. In the meantime. Here are some of the ideas I've been working out.
Work with Lexus
KIKI VALDES WORKS WITH LEXUS "DARKCASTING" WEB PROMO
Dec 2010 - Hey everybody. Check out the new video. I worked with Lexus about 4 weeks ago on this project. It's a show/reality commerical called "Darkcasting." It's exclusively on the Lexus site for customers to view. The show is pretty much creatives from different cities getting to drive the new Lexus 2011 hybrid around town. The host Whitney Cummings is really funny. I hope you all enjoy, it was a lot of fun. Most of the work in the studio in the promo is from 2007ish. I had no new work to show since most of it was already shipped off to New York. It was a lot of fun to do and I'm glad to have gotten to meet the whole crew and everyone was really cool and made it easy. You don't expect to have 30 cameras pointing at your face, so it was cool that everyone was so laid back.
Switching gears now, Art Basel was pretty cool from what my friends tell me. My good friend Valerie DeLeon set up a fashion show at the Albion Hotel and wore one of our Kiki Valdes dresses. Check it out
I still don't have pictures from the other show at Cielo. But I hear the Ruinart show was pretty fun. I had one commissioned painting there at the Betsy Hotel. The reception looked like a good time. Here are some pictures and of the piece I created too. The party was hosted by White Wall Magazine.

Oct 2010 - Okay, this is the news I've been wanting to share with all of you. I'm moving out of Miami and heading over to New York. I've had a very interesting time in Miami but I feel I must move on and experience life in the big apple. Also, I've always wanted to be more involved in New York's art world. In closing here is a interview done by Art + Hustle from way back in the summer. But, it was just put out recently. Special thanks to Corey Knight for producing this. The segment is called "We Are Leaders" which is pretty much a segment from their website where they talk to people in the arts who are leaders or trying to be one someday? Check it out
Oct. 2010 - The event with CNN was great. I got to meet so many great people from the network and beyond. It was pretty cool, Spam All Stars played last night too at this event. This is 3rd event I've been involved in with them. We did the Princeton/Havard Cuba Conference together in 2006 and this year we did an Absolute Vodka ad launch together and this CNN engagement last night. It was great.
I want to thank all of the fine people that got me involved and the staff at the ViceRoy. Thank you. I am also really glad to hear that this painting will be in the newly built CNN studio in Brickell Key, Miami.

May 2010: I'm having a solo show of older works from the days I painted at clubs. Check it out
KIKI VALDES: BACK IN THE CLUB DAYS Live work from 2004 – 2006
The collection of work by Kiki Valdes that will be included in the show “Back in the Club Days” at Cafeina Gallery is from the years the artist spent live action painting at various nightclubs around Miami Beach and New York between 2004 - 06. The work is intuitive and direct by application of paint. The subject matter ranges from narratives of Hispanic stereotypes amplified by motifs of Latin women and symbols of Caribbean culture and folklore. Each work in the show was created in a hurry and in limited time among party spectators.

Secret Knowledge + Hidden Chaos
NEW VIDEO SHOWS KIKI VALDES WORKING Feb. 2010 - Friends, How are you? I wanted to share with you a video of me at work at the studio taking some questions about art and media. This was filmed by Chris Sullivan, who has filmed Art Basel coverage for the past 2 years for Saatchi Gallery.
We felt it was time to show the work I've been doing in a more intimate way. People often times only remember you for one thing you do, in my case it was my satirical approach to Cuban art and my performance painting. The work in the video I have been exploring for 2 years now. The site will also be updated with new works as well to give a better idea of the progress.
If you enjoy the video we strongly encourage you all to post it on tweeter, facebook feeds or your personal blogs. Thanks for your support and for spreading the word.
Special thanks to producer of the project Chris Sullivan.

Nov 09 - I have been included in this new painting exhibit TIME + TEMP at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood. Information about the show is below. Special thanks to the curator Jane Hart for getting me involved.
This exhibition presents a survey of dynamic work by a selection of South Florida based artists who embrace and incorporate aspects of painting into their practice. A resurgence of painterly tendencies is currently taking hold among artists on a national even international level. Its growing appeal is also evident within the ever expanding contemporary art community in our region.
Some of the artists included in this exhibit include:
Guerra de la Paz, Daniel Newman, Kiki Valdes, Pepe Mar, Chuck Webster, Bhakti Baxter, Michael Vasquez, Brandon Opalka, Jacin Giordano, Gavin Perry, Skot Olsen among many others.
In conjunction with TIME + TEMP, The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood will unveil a newly painted site-specific mural by artist Francesco LoCastro in the Leonard and Sally Robbins Sculpture Garden.
