NEW ARTWORK UPLOADED TO SITE, NEARLY 2 YEARS SINCE UPDATED
Oct, 2008 - Hey my friends! Wanted to stop by and update you all that we have updated the art section of this site with some newer work from 2006, 07 and 08. There's a lot of really important work that still has not be on the site. I will try to get more of that work out there for your viewing...BUT...I won't upload everything that way you can have some suprises when I have my show coming up. Also wanted to send out some love to my friends at Next In Line for once again getting me involved with Shades of Pink this year. I did a big live piece and it was alot of fun to see alot of old faces and new ones too to raise some money for Breast Cancer research. I also recently did a pretty cool event with Cherisse Coley at Grass in the Design District. Much love to her, findally got to do something together. much more coolio stuff headed your way check back soon. By the way I'm loving this windy Miami weather, great change! July 2008 - Hey everyone, its been a minute since I've been able to update the news. Things have been real busy over here. Just wanted to give you guys the heads up about OpenZine.com (www.OpenZine.com) It's a site my brother Humby and I created for the purpose of networking information and ideas in a way thats more indepth then the blog. It's like creating a Zine online. It's cool because you can create new issues and save your back issues like an actual magazine. It's alot more fun then your 2003 idea of the blog. It's really for everyone wether your an artist, writer or whatever you do. THE HEXAGONE EXHIBITION OPENING RECAP
On May 10th 2008 we had an opening called Hexagone. It featured the works of me (Kiki Valdes,) Purvis Young, FriendsWithYou, Jose Mertz, Bhakti Baxter, Phillp Toledano and 1st Ave Machine. It was organized by ARC, which is a collective that I and Jose Mertz started to show all types of art in Miami. The show was held at Miami Art Space. I can finally say who organized the event where I painted live at the Freedom Tower in April. Telefonica invited me to be apart of the leadership conference they had. I was honored to be apart of it. The pics above show more or less what happened that night with music provided by my friends PALO! The show they had up by the IDB Collection was really cool as well. KIKI VALDES EXHIBITS AT DUKE UNIVERSITY FOR CUBA CONFERENCE
Hey! My paintings will be shown at Duke University during the Duke Cuba Conference going on this weekend over in Durham, NC. Have to thank all my friends at Duke and everyone from Evolution, Roots of Hope and Inter-Cambio for making this possible. If you are a student or live in the area make sure to check out the exhibition. It will be held at the Smith Building on campus. There will also be several artists showing from a few New York galleries. The conference is to bridge the gap between American Cubans and Cubans on the island. Finding ways that both sides can communicate and bring some clarity and expression to the table. KIKI VALDES & IDB COLLECTION ART RECEPTION
The Inter-Development Bank's collection goes on view across musuems all over the country, this month the collection will have a private art reception for their exhibition at the historic Freedom Tower Art Center. A corporation which I can't disclose at this time is hosting this private event there. They have commissioned me to create a piece live during the exhibit. Artists in the show include Keith Haring, Wilfredo Lam, Roy Lichtenstein, Roberto Matta, Diego Rivera and many others. I am just really honored that I was picked for this. The live art thing has taken a turn where I think it belongs.

I also want to thank the students and staff at University of IL at Urbana-Champaign and the Krannert Art Musuem for having me and for pulling off such a successful event and opening. I was there yesterday and it was just a beautiful thing to experience. The musuem has works currently shown by Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Stuart Davis and others. Landscapes of Experience and Imagination was the opening of the exhibition that night by Midwest Latin artists. I did a live drawing to charcole on canvas with a live Jazz orchestra. Hello Everyone, just giving a heads up that I have been invited to do a live piece at an opening reception for Landscapes of Experience and Imagination. It's a group show of Latin artists from the Midwest area. It will be happening at the Krannert Museum. It's a great museum, its the second biggest art museum in IL right behind Art Institute of Chicago. I am happy to be apart of it. The piece I am creating that night will be auctioned off at the 1st Annual Genesis Scholarship Dinner. The profits will go straight to the Lambda Genesis Scholarship. Special thanks to David Orta and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for having me. I will be celebrating my 27th Birthday with the good people of UIUC.

KIKI VALDES JOINS NEW MONTHLY FIRESIDE
Happy New Year Everyone! I know I'm a little late but it's never too late to wish you the best for 2008! January is looking pretty good, On January 25th I've been asked to paint live at a new monthly event called Fireside Fridays at the exclusive Grove Isle Hotel. I will be painting there once a month for the next 5 months. This has been the most consistant event I will be doing since Secret Society at BED. Once again I have to thank Landy Labadie for this one. This night is sponsered by Bombay Sapphire. Music provided by DJ. Sandman and Milo Rodriguez. The night also features a selection of specially paired hors d' oeuvres from supreme chef, Jesse Souza. KIKI VALDES EXHIBITED AT PS1 Hey everyone, I'm glad to announce that one of my paintings has been selected to be exhibited with 15 other artists. All these artists are finalists for a mural competition for Heineken Beer. This private exhibition will be held on Sept. 19th at the legendary PS1, Contemporary Art Center an alternative space affiliated with the Museum of Modern Art in Long Island City, Queens. One winner will be picked the evening of the showing. Whoever gets chosen will be commissioned to create murals in Miami, New York and Los Angeles. Wish me luck everyone!

Hey friends, hope you all enjoy the new layout of the site. I'm writing to let you all  know I will be in Malaga, Spain for a week. I decided to travel a little this summer and get my creativity flowing. I've been working on a dozen new paintings and I'm working on a project. It will be the greatest piece I've made thus far. Can't tell too much about it. As for Malaga, i will doing a lot of drawings over there.

KIKI VALDES IN PHILLY FOR EVOLUTION
The Evolution Campus Tour has kicked off, hitting eastcoast colleges and spreading the word of free thought and expression in Cuba. The final tour stop will be a two-day conference at the University of Pennsylvania, which will include: academic panels, open-forum discussions and reflections, action painting by Kiki Valdes and performance by Javier Garcia and band on Saturday April 21st. As well as an all-day training for affiliated student and young professional leaders. Two campuses will also host photography and art exhibits.

KIKI VALDES AT GRAND OPENING OF CHISPA DORAL
Everyone knows of the energetic Latin Contemporary restaurant Chispa of Coral Gables, but on March 1st, 2007 the doors will open for their Doral location. The grand opening will be an evening filled with music, fine dining, Miami's leading citizens and Kiki Valdes painting live for the nights ambiance.
The media filled event will start at 6pm and run till 10pm. Chispa blends authentic cuisines with reflections of Old World Culinary culture from the Spanish Caribbean to Latin America in a New World setting. It would only make sense to have Valdes there to capture the feeling of the night. Mixing the Latino flavor with the Expressionistic action the artist is known to display.

On Friday, January 19th 2007 Young professionals from all over Miami will be celebrating NEXT IN LINE's 3rd Annuel Event entitled "The Black Party" which will be happening at the Bank of America Tower on the Sky Terrace. Kiki Valdes is a active memeber of NEXT IN LINE and will be creating a black and white action painting to the 300 expected guests. This will be Valdes's first public art appearance in 2007.
NEXT IN LINE is a one-of-a-kind networking organization comprised of successful young professionals looking to build their businesses, expand their client base, become involved in their community and advance their careers. On December 16th Miami famed artist Kiki Valdes will be action painting on stage for the limited edition T-Mobile Sidekick 3 launch party at Webster Hall in New York City. A mixture of technology dipped into hiphop with some Cuban Americanism art. Resident DJ Ray Roc will be spinning a fine mix and the night will be guest hosted by Flavor Flav. If your in the New York area this is something you wouldn't want to miss.

Some History on Webster Hall: Built in 1886, designed by renowned architect Charles Rentz, Webster Hall was described as the "Jewel of the Village" by Eugene O'Neil. It was where the original bohemians, like Emma Goldman, Marcel DuChamp and Margaret Sangor, created unique costume balls to benefit nascent social and political causes.

On the night of December 15th 2006 Twilo of Downtown Miami will be launching its brand new Friday night’s party. Twilo formerly a New York nightclub powerhouse has opened its doors in Miami. The original Twilo was most beloved since the seminal Studio 54. Before it was Twilo, back in the early 1990’s the space was known as “The Sound Factory” which attracted the likes of Madonna and others. The owner of Twilo Phil Smith who had worked in the early 80’s with such artists as Keith Haring has now stepped to up and comer Kiki Valdes to paint passionately throughout the burning Miami night. In other news: Valdes designed a shopping kart for the show Pimp My Kart at Faktura Gallery during Art Basel week. Artists included Luis Pinto, Christian Alexander, Blur, Carlos Bueno, Jacquelyn Jackson Johnston and others. Valdes also painted live at Spider Pussy at The District in the Miami Design District. It was a fun art party to say the least. There is a few new pictures in the photo gallery of Art Basel which include a picture of Kiki and artist/curator Francesco LoCastro and one with Kat Von D of Miami Ink. Both shots were taken at the “We’ll Make A Lover of You” exhibit at Art Center. |
